Mission or Goal of Unit

Childrens Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has committed itself to transforming the GI Pediatrics Division into a model academic unit devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research.

Chief Purpose of this position

VCU Medical Center and Childrens Hospital have joined together, forming Childrens Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Together, we are a full-service Childrens Hospital that offers a robust continuum of pediatric services, research and education.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching: Teaching responsibilities in the area of pediatric GI/Psychology. Faculty member will provide guidance and mentorship to Residents and Chief Residents in the area of GI/Psychology.

Scholarship: Reasonable scholarly activities, such as program evaluation, research, publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are preferred.

Service: Serving on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional through journal review, conference presentations, etc.

Clinical: Will serve as a Psychologist in the Psychiatrys Child and Adolescent Psychology Division and in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Services may include individual assessment/evaluations, individual therapy, group and family therapy.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical Counseling from an APA- accredited doctoral program
  • Virginia licensed or eligible
  • Experience in treating patients ages birth to 21 with gastroenterological disorders with an emphasis in pediatric motility and functional GI disorders
  • Experience with education of house-staff, medical students, and others
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sub-board and or additional graduate degree
  • Experience with non-pharmacological management of GI disorders is preferred. Research experience, program evaluation and/or publications, and teaching/supervision experience also preferred
  • Experience with advocacy at local, state, and national level
