Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is to deliver exceptional patient care, educate future leaders, and to advancement of this specialty through innovative research.
Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Surgery is seeking candidates for the position of Division Chief for Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery. The ideal candidate will have a national reputation with a proven track record of leading key programs. They should be a master surgeon with unique skills in an area such as microsurgery, hand surgery, or aesthetics. They should have a commitment to research and education in the field of plastic surgery. This is a key leadership role within the department of surgery to advance the division’s reputation.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching | Faculty member will be responsible for teaching in all areas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to fellows, residents, as well as medical and undergraduate students.
Research | Faculty member will establish clinical research projects with medical students and residents to establish evidence-based practice outcomes as well as participate and/or establish clinical trials within the division.
Service | Faculty member will serve on departmental and hospital committees as assigned and participate in regional and national professional organizations.
Clinical | Faculty member will provide care to the patients of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community facilities. They will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department’s leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
- Virginia state licensure
- Completion of a fellowship within any of the Plastic Surgery sub-specialties
- Commitment to resident education and teaching
- Commitment to research and innovation
- Excellent interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence
- Ability to function in a complex matrixed environment
- Effective skills in managing conflict
- Commitment to clinical excellence, education, and clinical research
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fellowship training in microsurgery, hand surgery or aesthetics
