Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. The Department of Neurology is committed to enhancing diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Chief Purpose of this position: This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Sleep Medicine. This position will also serve as the Division Chair of Sleep Medicine. The faculty member must be board eligible or certified. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Clinical
Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

2. Teaching
The faculty member will be expected to teach medical students, neurology residents (and those from other Departments), and sleep medicine fellows.

3. Research
The Division of Sleep Medicine is engaged in clinical and translational research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical and/or translational research projects and clinical trials.

4. Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Required Qualifications:

• An MD/DO, with residency training at an accredited institution.
• Eligibility for licensure in Virginia and board certification or board eligible in Neurology.
• Fellowship training and board certification in Sleep Medicine is preferred.
• Understanding of, and appreciation for, the three missions of research, education, and clinical care as it applies to Sleep Medicine in the context of academic medicine.
• A strategic orientation that looks to collect, analyze, and act on relevant data to make thoughtful decisions for immediate action and long-term plans in clinical operations and quality initiatives.
• Strong leadership ability and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage colleagues within Sleep Medicine, the Neurology Department, and the health system more broadly.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
